Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) is a multi-faceted expressive arts therapy. It is one of the few expressive therapies that work extensively with the voice. VMT is for anyone who is looking to enhance their ability to express themselves through both verbal and non-verbal communication channels. This work focuses on affective vocal expressions, which have been influenced by psychological, and body oriented experiences that have led to obstructions in the ability to be a freely expressive individual. VMT also incorporates active imagery, massage, movement, and therapeutic processes to help a person on their journey of self -discovery

If you feel your vocal expression is limited in anyway.
If you want to explore your "story" in a creative way in a safe environment.
If you feel that you have been discouraged from expressing or asserting yourself fully.
If you feel your life can be enhanced either on a personal or professional level through the development of greater confidence in your vocal expression.
VMT is for you!

The first session is for me to get to know you. You will be asked a varitey of questions about your history, what your relationship is to your voice and what you feel you will gain by working with me. All of this information will help me to better understand who you are and how I will be able to best support you in discovering your voice in future sessions.
I generally start out each session with some breathing and grounding exercises that are designed to make you aware of your body and help you to be present and focused. We will begin our journey together by introducing you to the principles of Voice Movement Therapy (VMT). From there we will be able to work in a variety of different ways. I like to start out working with breath and introduce you to breathing into the belly. This is a great practice for everyone as we live in such hectic times that we seldom get the chance to just slow down and take a breath. From here it depends on what your goals are as to where we will go with the journey. You may wish to focus on expanding your vocal range. Or you may wish to work more creatively through the use of drawing, song writing, journalling or free form writing. VMT is a very flexible process so everyone's session will progress from where they are at the moment they walk into the room and we begin. My job is to be present for you and be a companion on your journey to discover your voice and yourself.
All sessions are 50 minutes in length. Please email me for cost and avaliability.
